Director of epic films such as The Wrestler and Requiem for a Dream, Darren Aronofsky is sure to amaze audiences once again with his new psycological thriller Black Swan.
Set in the ballet world of New York, the film centers around Nina (Natalie Portman) a ballerina who lives with her overbearing mother Erica (Barbara Hershey).
Nina is chosen to replace Beth Macintyre (Winona Ryder) for the ballet comapnies new production - Swan Lake but she's also in competition with another dancer Lily (Mila Kunis) who the production director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) favours.
Swan Lake requires a prima ballerina who can portray both innocence to play the White Swan and sensuality to play the Black Swan. Nina is perfect for the role of the White Swan but Lily embodies the Black Swans persona.
As the two girls rivalry turns into a strange friendship, Nina finds out she has more of the the Black Swan in her than she first thought.
From viewing the trailer today it's obvious writer and director team Aronofsky and Mark Heyman (The Wrestler) are onto another winner with Black Swan.
It will be the third consecutive film directed by Darren to be premiered at the 67th Venice Film Festival in September, with the last two being The Fountain and The wrestler and it will also be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
It's been said that it will have a limited release in the US from the 1st December 2010 with the UK release not yet know.
